anatomy of a CHAIR season

In our contininous effort today to keep things lively and well done without much snarkiness as we're trying to be nice (blame Carter) we came up with ways to keep Chair interesting and poingnant come Season 3. I decided to undertake this misadventure in response to the opposition's favorite statement of 'ONCE CHAIR IS TOGETHER THEY'LL BE BORING SO YOU STUPID FAN-GIRLS SHUT UP!'. In the words of Anne Shirley - those people seriously lack imagination. Let us indulge everyone for a moment and find not only plots that Chair can undertake together but the MEANING of said plots that can be more than just OMFG moments. Writers, apologies if we extract some ideas from fanfiction as we have the best, absolutely best MOTHERFUCKING FANFICTION in the fandom. So without further delay here we go.

10 WAYS TO KEEP CHAIR INTERESTING NOW THAT THEY'RE A COUPLE

1. PLOT: We know Blair and Chuck’s life will be changing drastically come S3. He’s running his company and she’s starting college. This will have them distracted and all over the place. The first plot that comes to mind is how to work in your busy lifestyle into a relationship. The reason this works well is because most adults undergo this same issue. Two separate careers, being at different places, doing different things yet you still love one another so you have to find a middle ground. Finding a middle is going to be key for them through this.
BACKEND MEANING: Once a middle ground is found there’s a bonding that comes from knowing that everything didn’t just fall apart. That you made it through and that you were able to work through this. Chuck, never having had a relationship before will be the first to struggle with this but this is when Blair’s expertise on relationships (albeit dull ones) comes in handy.

2. PLOT: Company problems for Chuck. He’s 18, he’s running a billion dollar corporation? He’s playing with the big boys now. People who are as cunning as he is and have done god-knows-what to get to the top. I guarantee you that he will have issues. How does it play into Chair? I think he will try to keep it from her in the beginning, because she’s stressed with college but she will find out.
BACKEND MEANING: Confiding in one another, you must confide in one another to make a relationship work. This is when she will scold him and remind him that he needs to tell her things. They’ll team up and face this challenge together.

3. PLOT: Help the Humphrey. Now that Darena is on break Dan needs to be worked into some sort of storyline in the UES. What better way to work him in than to mix him somehow with Chair? This was done flawlessly in 2.08 and I can see them revising it in the future, plus Penn has great dynamic with both Ed and Leighton.
BACKEND MEANING: Dan knows things about both Chuck and Blair that the other doesn’t. This can bring up things such as Chuck’s mom, Chuck’s feelings towards his father, Blair’s own feelings towards Chuck. Etc. Though at this point it’s ‘resolved’ that they love one another I have no doubt that the writers will throw in moments of doubts. Enter the Humphrey.

4. PLOT: Pregnancy scare. I know, it was done in S1 but then again so was Nair and that came around once more. It’s only a scare, it wont actually happen.
BACKEND MEANING: This is a perfect way for Blair and Chuck to talk about his mother, they have no addressed this yet. Another thing that can come out of this is talk about the future. Future-talk is so common amongst teen relationship that I can see this being used for this purpose.

5. PLOT: Blair’s bulimia. Yes, it’s STILL not addressed and I think this can equal to Chuck’s storyline about his father’s death. This can be a big mid-season arc and can even possibly tear them apart for a few episode. Very dramatic.
BACKEND MEANING: For one, it will be addressed and for second Chuck can mirror the words Blair told him – that he’d stand by her through anything. Since Chair is generally written to mirror one another’s actions this would be the perfect opportunity.

6. PLOT: Vanessa gets murdered. No, wait. Really. I’m being civil. Just listen here for a moment. For one, it’ll all make us feel bad that we really got her written off, for second it’ll be her BIGGEST storyline. DEATH OF A GOSSIP GIRL. The media will eat it up. How does Chair come to play? I think this will involve the entire cast. Chuck can help finding out who did it with his money and Blair can threaten whoever as we now feel bad that she’s dead. This can also involve a distraught Dan (or Nate) going to Chuck for help in finding the person who did it.
BACKEND MEANING: She’ll be gone. I don’t need to give you more reasons. But if they go to Chuck for help he’ll open up about how he feels about loosing someone he cared for.

7. PLOT: Chuck’s mother’s side of the family. Where are they? They have to be somewhere? Did they get lost in the Bermuda triangle? Are they Jewish? Amish? There has to be explanation for these things.
BACKEND MEANING: Chuck wants a family, we know this but this is a good time to voice it and goes in that same wave length of their future together.

8. PLOT: The HOT grad student or teacher who takes interest in Blair. Why, you ask yourself, would he be threatening when she’s dating Chuck Bass you ask? Well for starters it’s a soap. Third parties go together with it like peanut butter and jelly. Chuck feeling a little insecure, Blair not noticing or upset at the Basstard for something uses it for her advantage.
BACKEND MEANING: There will always be people who will try to get in the middle of their relationship *cough*hobobarista*cough* but they need to learn to work through these things, stop using sex as a weapon and grow up slowly but surely.

9. PLOT: Lack of sex drive. What? It worked in Sex and the City! Busy lives, lives apart may lead to a dry spell. ALL couples go through it and for Chair it can actually turn into something hilarious, added to an episode where Nate and Serena finally hook up or something, it's a nice secondary-plot.
BACKEND MEANING: For those IDIOTS that really think Chair is all about sex will receive a rude awakening by the end of it.

10. PLOT: Dorota falling in love and wanting to leave her Miss. Blair. C'mon! Dorota is more fabulous than Vanessa and Rufus put together and we dont mean that in a sexual way! Blair will panic, Chuck will either be amused or offer Dorota a raise. Either way it's a cute and slightly funny 2nd-plot to add to an epsiode. Plus, I honestly believe Chuck loves watching Blair panic, it turns him on.
BACKEND MEANING: This will definetly be more about Blair and her ties to Dorota and maybe touching on some mom-issues.

So now that we've been nice for the MAJORITY of the day I hear Inca has some WANKING that needs to happen soon. So the cease-fire routine may end a bit early. In the words of the great Inigo Montoya: "There will blood tonight!"

  1. I support many of these plots!

And hooray to you ending this early! I got death glares everywhere! Trust me, some of these bloody wankers need to be...well, plugged up.

  2. I love these. I always love a jealous Chuck, and there is nothing I'd love more than a dead Vanessa.

Y'know what I'd like to see? It's not very OMFG, but "Blair's two dads don't like Chuck". It plays into a lot of dynamics--Blair's extreme daddy issues, the fact that Harold doesn't like the Blair that loves Chuck (and Harold needs calling out on his actions this season), Chuck's both resentment of authority and father issues....It could be a little thing with a really really big payoff. Blair would really shine in it, she does get loyalty, and we'd get some nice multi-dimensional moments from Chuck--smarting that he has to care about this...but realizing that because he loves Blair, he has to care about it at least a little.

  3. I can't believe how awesome this is... It needs to be forwarded to the writers ASAP, and they need to read it, learn from it, and write it!!! DAMN!!! It is so annoying that they feel like they can't make a good story-line unless it is filled with fucking OMFG moments. Really, they might draw in new viewers, but they just piss off the loyal viewers!!! Why can't these writers realize that Chair would be even MORE interesting once they are together, not LESS

Anyway, can't wait for the wanking, it makes my day!

  4. THIS. THIS is what Chair should be discussing. Worrying about Chair vs. Nair is irrelevant.

  5. LOVE THESE. I hope Josh + Co. has these on their storyboards and if they don't, I hope someone sends them a link.

  6. Great potential plot lines! Well done!

I also like my fellow anon's plot about Chuck having to deal with Harold and his "dislike" for the Blair that Chuck loves.

  7. Fantastic, honestly really really really good storylines, I think someone should send them into JS and SS.

    Fantastic

  8. Number 5! Number 5! You have no idea how much I want that storyline. It's right up there with CB as a couple for me.

Also, I want me some family dinner time. Hilarity will ensue.

Maybe some drunk Blair at a college party. Chuck turning up. She doesn't wanna leave. So she starts grinding grinding griiiinding, winding winding wiiiiding (up against lil' Chuckles of course).

And yes. More CBD interaction. It is GOLD!

Blair being Chuck's support system, as always.
Chuck being Blair's Valium, as always.

    It's all good.

  9. I agree with number 5 thing.

And seriously well done on those plot ideas, not only do I like them all but if that happened it would be the best season of a show- EVER.

  10. NO! Not a lack of sex drive! That has been done many times before and I've hated it every time..Their hotness is something I love about them and if they go through a dry spell???? No. Just No.

  11. This is fantastic! Ah, if only season 3 went this way, I'd be happy. :)
